When you’re trying to fit an annealing lamp into a mobile repair bracket, you’re basically fighting for every single millimeter. It’s a completely different world than using a stationary kiln. You don’t have the luxury of a massive power supply or those giant heat sinks to lean on. Everything has to be tight. The goal is to get that glass jewelry up to its annealing point fast, but without turning the rest of your bracket into a melted mess. Dealing with heat in a tiny space To get the temperature to climb quickly in such a small setup, we go with short-wave infrared (SWIR) quartz elements. Why? Because short-wave radiation hits the glass surface way faster than the long-wave stuff. When you’re doing spot-repairs on jewelry, speed is everything. But here’s the catch: you have to balance the wattage against whatever power source you’re carrying. If you cram too much wattage into a short tube, you’ve got a lot of heat density, but you’re also putting a massive strain on your wiring. If your gauges are too thin, you’ll get voltage drops, and your heating will be all over the place. The trade-offs We use compact connectors to keep the whole thing slim. The idea is that this should be a simple drop-in replacement—you shouldn’t have to redesign your entire bracket just to make it work. We also stick to high-purity quartz so the tube doesn’t warp when you’re cycling the heat up and down. But let’s be honest: pushing that much power through a tiny lamp creates some intense, localized heat. If your bracket doesn’t have proper venting or some heat-reflective shielding, you’re asking for trouble. You’ll likely burn out your sockets or fry the mobile housing. Making it actually work You really need a PID controller in the mix. Without one, it’s too easy to overshoot. Because the heating zone is so small, your glass can go from “perfectly annealing” to “completely melted” in a matter of seconds. It happens fast. One last tip: use a focused reflector. Bouncing that IR energy directly onto the piece means you waste less heat and put way less stress on your battery or adapter. It just makes the whole rig run smoother.
