If you’re preheating wide-format Low-E glass, you already know the headache. One cold spot or a slight dip in temperature and you’ve got warping or coating defects. It’s a nightmare. Once you cross that 3-meter mark, the standard lamps you buy off the shelf just don’t work. They can’t keep up. That’s why we build custom, ultra-long infrared units. We design them specifically for those wide-track heating tunnels where precision is everything. The struggle with 3+ meter spans Here’s the thing: when you stretch a heating element over 3 meters, you start fighting voltage drop. If you aren’t careful, the edges get hot while the center stays lukewarm. We fix this by using high-wattage quartz tubes and tweaking the filament winding. It keeps the heat steady across the whole surface. Just a heads-up—make sure your power supply can actually handle the current draw. If it can’t, you’ll deal with flickering or weird “dead zones” in your heating. The nitty-gritty on materials We use heavy-wall quartz glass for a reason. When you hang a lamp horizontally over a long distance, gravity wants to pull it down. These thicker walls stop the tubes from bowing. Then there’s the wavelength. Low-E glass is picky. If the heat isn’t dialed in, you risk damaging those metallic oxide layers. Depending on how fast your line is moving, we can coat the quartz to shift the emission to mid-wave or short-wave. It’s all about getting the heat to penetrate the glass without ruining it. The trade-offs: Installation and upkeep Let’s be honest—long lamps are fragile. One wrong move or a clumsy bump during install and snap. To stop that from happening, we use reinforced mounting brackets to soak up the vibrations from your conveyor. We also wire everything for quick swap-outs. But there is a catch. While these 3-meter units are great because they get rid of the gaps between lamps, they are a pain to replace compared to small modules. You’ll need plenty of overhead room to slide them into place without slamming them into the frame.
