
Dealing with the Headache of Wide-Format Low-E Glass Preheating
If you’re working with Low-E glass, you know the struggle. You need the heat to be perfectly even across a massive piece of glass, but most standard lamps just don’t cut it. They usually top out at one or two meters. That leaves you with those annoying cold spots that mess up your whole run. To fix this, we build infrared heating units that go well over 3 meters. No gaps. No cold spots. Just a steady, uniform wall of heat. The Voltage Struggle Here’s the thing: when you stretch a quartz tube to 3 meters, physics starts fighting you. You get voltage drop. If you aren’t careful, the ends of the tube will be scorching while the middle is barely lukewarm. We handle this by using higher voltage ratings or splitting the wiring into segments. It keeps the heat density the same from one end to the other. Just a heads-up—check your power supply before you plug these in. These long units pull a lot of current. If your electrical panel isn’t ready for the load, you’re going to be tripping breakers all day. Keeping Things Straight (Literally) We use high-purity quartz because it can handle the shock of being turned on and off rapidly without cracking. But there’s a catch. A 3-meter tube is heavy. If it isn’t supported just right, it’ll start to sag under its own weight. That’s why we use reinforced mounting clips and very specific spacing. If the tube bows even a little bit, your focal point shifts. Suddenly, your heating is uneven again, and you’re back to square one. Getting Them Installed These are designed to slide right into your existing heating tunnels without a fuss. We use heavy-duty connectors because we know installation can be a bit rough. One piece of advice: these things are long and fragile. Please, use a hoist when you’re swapping them out. Trying to manhandle a 3-meter quartz tube is a great way to end up with a lot of expensive shards on your floor. And one last thing… the more heat we pack into that tube, the harder your cooling fans have to work. If your airflow is weak, the housing around the tube is going to cook. Make sure your fans are actually doing their job.
