
How to actually get your bathroom heater right
Let’s be honest: nobody likes stepping out of a hot shower into a freezing bathroom. It’s a shock to the system. But when it comes to fixing that, a lot of people think the answer is just to buy the most powerful lamp they can find. Actually, it’s more about balance. We use short-wave infrared lamps because they’re smart. Instead of trying to heat up all the air in the room—which takes forever—they heat you and the surfaces around you directly. It’s instant. No waiting around while the room slowly warms up. Finding the right power You’ve got to look at the size of your space. If you’re dealing with a tiny powder room, something in the 250W to 400W range is usually plenty. But if you’ve got a massive master bath, you’ll probably want 600W or 800W. Or, better yet, a few lamps working together. Here’s the thing: if you go too big, you’re just wasting electricity and risking overheating the fixture. But if you go too small? The lamp has to work overtime just to keep up, and that’ll burn out the filament way faster than it should. The “Hot Spot” problem High-wattage lamps pack a punch. They get you warm fast, but they can be a bit aggressive. You end up with one scorching spot right under the lamp while your toes are still freezing in the corner. I’ve found a better way. Try using two 400W lamps instead of one big 800W monster. It spreads the heat across the floor much more evenly. You get a consistent warmth rather than a heat beam, and it’s a lot easier on your electrical system. A quick word on wiring Before you flip the switch, make sure your wiring can actually handle the load. Infrared lamps pull a lot of power the second they click on. If you’re putting these in a commercial building or a busy house, double-check your breaker. There’s nothing worse than the power tripping right during the morning rush because the circuit couldn’t handle the surge.
