In a glass plant, the line never stops. Period. When you’re moving from forming to annealing, you can’t afford to wait around for a heater to warm up, and you definitely don’t have the floor space for a massive, clunky machine. That’s why clear quartz infrared (IR) tubes are the go-to. They just work. Why the speed matters Here is the thing about clear quartz: it lets short-wave infrared radiation fly right through the tube wall without getting stuck. Most resistive heaters just warm up the air, which is slow and wasteful. These tubes? They shoot energy directly into the glass surface. We use high-purity quartz so the tubes don’t warp or get cloudy when they’re heating and cooling a thousand times a day. It’s fast. Really fast. If you kick up the line speed, the heat adjusts almost instantly. No lag, no guessing. The balancing act of power To get that online annealing done quickly, we push a lot of wattage into every millimeter of the tube. The upside is great—you can keep your oven short and save a ton of space on the factory floor. But there’s a catch. If you’re pushing 2000W+ through a short tube, your end caps and wiring are going to feel the heat. You can’t just plug these in and walk away. You need a solid cooling manifold to handle the ambient heat around the lamp holders, otherwise, you’re looking at melted connectors and a lot of downtime. You don’t have to tear the whole lehr apart. But the real secret to a good run is uniformity. We overlap the tubes in banks so you don’t get those annoying cold spots.
