
Why we’re ditching the old bathroom heat lamps for infrared
If you’ve ever stepped out of a shower into a freezing bathroom, you know the struggle. For years, the go-to fix was those high-wattage heat lamps. But honestly? They’re kind of a mess. They try to heat the air, which is a losing battle in a room full of steam and drafts. That’s why we’ve moved toward waterproof infrared radiators. It’s a completely different way of staying warm. The “Warmth” Difference Think about it this way: old heaters warm the air. But heat rises. So, while your ceiling is getting nice and toasty, you’re still shivering on the bathmat. Infrared is different. It doesn’t bother with the air. Instead, it sends out waves that hit you—and your towel, and the floor—directly. You feel the heat the second you turn it on. Even if you have high ceilings or a drafty window, you actually feel warm. Dealing with the Steam Bathrooms are basically torture chambers for electronics. Between the steam and the occasional splash, things corrode fast. We use units with high IP ratings—which is just a fancy way of saying they’re tightly sealed. This keeps the moisture away from the wiring. Cheap lamp heaters usually burn out because humidity eats away at the sockets over time. A proper seal stops that from happening. A Few Things to Keep in Mind It’s not magic, though. Infrared needs a clear line of sight. If you tuck the radiator behind a heavy curtain or a big cabinet, you’re blocking the heat. It needs to “see” you to warm you. Also, just make sure your electrical panel can handle the wattage. You don’t want to be flipping your breaker every time you take a shower. Less Hassle, More Heat At the end of the day, we want things to just work. No one likes climbing a ladder every six months to replace a burnt-out bulb. By switching to sealed infrared arrays, we’ve basically killed the maintenance cycle. You install it, you turn it on, and you stay warm. Simple as that.
