Stopping Cord Drift Before It Ruins Your Day

In the tire world, a tiny bit of cord misalignment is a nightmare. If you don’t catch it and fix it right then and there, you’re looking at a whole batch of scrap.
That’s why we built the HF TireTech IR lamps. They’re designed for those high-pressure moments where you need power to shift now. When your sensors flag a drift, you can’t afford to sit around waiting for a heating element to wake up. You need a response in under half a second.
Why this actually works
Most resistive heaters are just too bulky. They have too much “thermal mass,” which is a fancy way of saying they lag. They’re slow.
We went with shortwave infrared instead. It hits the target directly. Because we use high-frequency (HF) power control, these lamps can pivot their output almost instantly. It means you can tweak the heat the second the cord drifts, getting that adhesive to bond perfectly without accidentally cooking the rubber.
The grit and the trade-offs
We use high-purity quartz because these bulbs take a beating with all that rapid power cycling. The filaments are pushed to a high wattage density so the heat sinks into the tire layers fast.
But look, nothing is perfect. That kind of intensity puts a lot of stress on the lamp ends.
If you want these to last, make sure your connectors are seated tight. Check your wiring, too. It needs to be rated for the peak current, or you’ll end up with burnt-out terminals and a lot of frustration.
Getting it running on your floor
These are meant to be simple drop-in replacements for HF TireTech systems. We kept the footprint small so the heat stays as close to the cord as possible.
Here is the catch: the lamp is only half the battle. Your PLC has to be synced with a high-speed SCR or Thyristor power controller.
If your controller is sluggish, it doesn’t matter how fast the lamp is—you’ll still miss that 0.5-second window. Match your control loop to the lamp’s speed, and you’ll stop tossing money in the scrap bin.
