
Getting Your Bathroom Heat Just Right
When you’re picking out infrared lamps for the bathroom, it’s tempting to just grab the one with the biggest number on the box. But that’s usually a mistake. It’s more about finding that sweet spot where the heat actually fits the room.
Let’s talk size
If you’ve got a tiny powder room—you know, those little spaces under 4m²—a single 250W to 400W lamp is plenty. For a mid-sized bathroom (around 4-8m²), you’ll probably want something in the 600W to 1000W range. If you’re dealing with a massive master bath, you’re looking at a multi-lamp setup. Here’s the thing: if you go too heavy on the wattage, you’re basically throwing money away on electricity the room can’t even use. But if you go too low? The lamp has to work overtime. That constant cycling wears out the filament faster, and you’ll be replacing the bulb way sooner than you should.
Steam, water, and quick heat
Bathrooms are humid. Really humid. That’s why the housing needs a proper IP rating. You don’t want moisture sneaking into the electrical contacts. We use quartz glass for the envelopes because it’s tough. It can handle the shock of jumping from freezing to 500°C in a few seconds without cracking. Plus, we stick with shortwave infrared. Why? Because it heats you and the surfaces around you, not the air. You don’t have to stand around waiting for the whole room to warm up before you actually feel the heat. It’s almost instant.
The “Hot Spot” Problem
High wattage feels great, but it can be a bit much. If the lamp is too powerful and mounted too low, you’re going to end up with a “hot spot” that feels more like a heat lamp at a buffet than a cozy bathroom. It’s a balancing act. Mount a 1000W lamp too low, and it’ll burn. Mount it too high, and the warmth disappears before it even reaches you. My advice? Wire it up with a dimmer or a multi-stage switch. That way, you can just tweak the heat until it feels exactly right.
